President Duterte gave his 3rd State of the Nation Address (SONA) this July in Quezon City. The SONA is a speech from the President of the Philippines to report and announce his/her political activities in a joint session of the House of Representatives held in the fourth week of July every year.
The President first reviewed the past two years and said that, despite of the many adversities, his will to"make Filipino life better as a worker of the national government” has grown stronger. He also mentioned the anti-drug campaign as "it's far from over and I shudder when I think that drugs are still sold and used everywhere. I will regulate severely, save human lives destroyed by drugs, and protect human rights."
In addition, the president talked about corruption. He expressed it as "a leech that bleeds the government of funds programmed for people," and it "saps the morale, the morale of dedicated and honest government workers", he criticized.
The reactions of the people are very different and some say "I am grateful to hear that the anti-drug campaign won't be sidelined", on the other hand, some say" I am disappointed that his speech was just a repetition of past ones." President Duterte is remarkable for his boldness in speech and behavior, but it certainly seems that he wishes for peace and growth in the Philippines.
