On August 8th, 2018, by the hands of the National Historical Committee of the Philippines (NHCP), the marker for celebrating the 450th year of the landing of the Order of St. Augustine (OSA) was unveiled at the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño in Cebu.
Christianity, which could be called the main religion of the
country, started and spread
from Cebu. In 1565, the Order of St. Augustine came from Spain through Mexico and arrived in Cebu, where it began propagation. Three years ago, in 2015, was the 450th anniversary celebration and today, the monument has finally been unveiled.
Christianity has influenced the Philippines, not only in ideology, but also in terms of techniques and art, creating a number of beautiful historic buildings. The Basilica Minore del Santo Niño is part of them and now, another new historical mark has been added to the holy grounds of Cebu.
