Residents in Cebu City will be penalized for violating the quarantine protocols starting August 16, 2020.

Residents in Cebu City will be penalized for violating the quarantine protocols starting August 16, 2020.

Violations include: not wearing masks in public, going out without a quarantine pass or without authorization, public gathering more than the allowable number of people, failure to practice social distancing in vehicles and public places, and failure to uphold these guidelines in owned or operated establishments.

The guidelines will depend on the quarantine status of the city, and if they violate any protocol of that quarantine status, they may be penalized from P1,500 to P5,000 or be jailed up to 30 days.

For the first offense, the penalty is P1,500 or serving up to 30 days imprisonment. For the second offense, the violator will pay a fine of P3,000 and will serve 30 days in jail. For the third offense and multiple offenders, they will be fined P5,000 and serve 30 days in jail.

Preparation for resumption of domestic trip to Lapu Lapu City

Following “improvements” on its COVID-19 situation, Lapu-Lapu City is now gearing towards reopening its tourism industry for domestic clients.
“We look forward to opening up the domestic tourism market to revive the hospitality industry,” TCHAC head Cindi King-Chan was quoted as saying in the Commission’s page.
As of August 12, the city has reported that only 503 cases remain active out of its 1,972 total confirmed cases. Its number of recoveries is already at 1,378.

Five more countries accept Filipino travelers

This week, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) received reports that five new countries have lifted inbound restrictions on Filipino travelers, subject to medical protocols such as proof of purchase of health insurance, institutional or home quarantine, presentation of negative COVID-19 test result, among others. These countries include Brazil, Kiribati, United Kingdom, Benin, and Chad.

Reduced number of quarantine offenders

Cebu City Police Office said they reported fewer quarantine violators as the city entered its 4th week under GCQ. Police data showed that a total of 1,525 individuals were caught not following quarantine protocols from August 1 to August 15. From August 16 to August 26, they had apprehended a total of 271 individuals. Of this number, 164 were caught for not having quarantine passes when going outside of their houses. 54 others were rounded up for not wearing face masks while 43 more were caught not following the curfew schedule. 
Good job, Cebuanos! This is a big improvement compared to the first half of the month! Let’s continue to cooperate and observe safety protocols even under GCQ!
