The Bohol tourism industry is now on the rise, following the opening of the Philippine's first eco-airport, Bohol-Panglao International Airport, last November. Josephine Cabarrus, the Bohol Tourism Office head, is optimistic as she stated that a fresh approach to airport management and operation is a satisfying strategy to make the eco-airport on par with other international airports.
Cabarrus emphasized, "Learning from how the Tagbilaran airport was managed, we know there are things to be improved upon. If you say that you have an international facility, then you should have international-level service."
Therefore, with the probability of the number of tourists doubling this year, she said that services should be raised to international standards. There has also been notable growth of the tourism in Bohol, according to airport consultant ICF, with an annual rate of 25.2% growth from 2011 to 2017 and 30% from 2016 to 2017 to reach an estimated 1.3 million tourists.
Panglao is undeniably the most well-known tourist destination in Bohol and has a recorded 704,000 tourists so far in 2017.
