Due to the successful opening of Terminal 2 of the Mactan International Aiport, MICA was awarded the Asia-Pacific Medium Airport of the Year by the Centre for Asia-Pacific Aviation (CAPA) in the CAPA 2018 Asia-Pacific Aviation Awards for Excellence.
The award was accepted by MCIA Authority General Manager, Steve Dicdican, and GMCAC Chief Executive Advisor, Andrew Harrison, in Singapore on November 8th, 2018.
"I would consider ourselves a primary destination… eventually, we will overtake Manila in terms of traffic and overtake Manila as a primary airport" stated Steve Dicdican during the CAPA Summit, as posted on CAPA’s official Twitter account.
CAPA, known as one of the world's most trusted sources of market intelligence for the aviation and travel industry, has stated that the award is given to airports with major standouts that accommodate 10 to 30 million passengers annually and was given to MCIA after the opening of Terminal 2. Since its opening in July of this year, there has been a notable boost of passengers from 4.5 million to 12.5 million, making MCIA a chief in strenuous efforts for leading in the progress of the aviation industry.
