Japanese dance instructor & player
This dance captured the hearts of Filipino women and this year, she was met with roaring applause.
She goes back and forth between Cebu and Japan, instructing and performing Japanese dance. For entertainment at this year's Japanese Speech Contest event, she performed "Okane of Oumi", the story of the strength of young bride who subdues a wild runaway horse. She is 77 years old but continues rehearsing with vigor every day.

Claudia met a Japanese gentleman when she was doing an archaeological digging in Sri Lanka, they got married and moved to Cebu. These days, she is an English and German teacher. "There is little competition and the German students enjoy studying, playing sports, and the easy Cebu flow" says Claudia. She enjoys her life here. "Here in Cebu, time flows slowly and easily."

She become the first female president of the Japanese Association Cebu. As the numbers of young members increase, the events get more lively.
Ms. Sakurai is from Kagoshima, Japan. She turned things around and became the leader of the Japanese Association Cebu from January 2016. Zumba Dancing at the Saturday Market, was a big success drawing in 300 people. "We have lots of young members so the Bon Odori event in August will be exciting" says Ms. Sakurai.
